SÉO statement on the federal cabinet shuffle

In response to the announcement of the federal cabinet shuffle, SÉO President Denis Laframboise has issued the following statement.

‘’The SÉO is very pleased at the announcement that the Trudeau government made yesterday following its cabinet shuffle. We applaud the creation of a full-fledged Department of Official Languages and La Francophonie. This is an historic day and a highly significant step forward for all Francophones in Canada. We Franco-Ontarians regard it as a very strong signal that the federal government is sending us.  We congratulate Minister Joly on her new mandate.

“We are eager to work with the Minister not only on Francophone economic issues but also on Francophone tourism. The Société Économique de l'Ontario is currently in charge of a number of major tourism initiatives, such as the development of the Route Champlain tourism route and Écorismo Canada, an international conference on sustainable tourism that will be held in Ottawa on September 10 and 11, 2018. The SÉO also congratulates the new Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, and the new Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion, the Honourable Mary Ng. We will soon be working with both of them, in the same spirit of collaboration and openness as always, so as to better serve the multicultural community and Francophone and bilingual small and medium-sized businesses in Ontario. The SÉO wishes to thank the outgoing Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Bardish Chagger, for the support that she has given us on tourism matters in Ontario and for the excellent relations that we have enjoyed with her office.’’
