SÉO appoints new Regional Director for Northern Ontario

The Société Économique de l’Ontario (SÉO) is very pleased to announce today that as part of its regionalization initiative, it has created the position of Regional Director for Northern Ontario and has appointed Christian Howald to fill it, effective May 13, 2019.

Mr. Howald holds a master’s degree in applied social research and specializes in economic, social and community development in northern Ontario. His professional background will strengthen the fine team that the SÉO already fields. He is highly familiar with northern Ontario and its specific issues concerning economic development, immigration and employability, and he has been working on economic development in the north for nearly 20 years. For the past six years, he served as coordinator for Réseau du Nord, a network that supports Francophone immigration to northern Ontario. Before that, he served as a development officer for the Northern Ontario Region of the Conseil de la coopération de l’Ontario (CCO) while also working as a researcher for the Canadian Social Economy Hub.

For the SÉO, northern Ontario is of strategic importance, and Mr. Howald has built an outstanding reputation there for his many initiatives in the field. By recruiting him, the SÉO has seriously advanced its efforts to expand the economic services that it offers to entrepreneurs and new settlers under the Ontario government’s new targeted initiative for northern Ontario. Like the SÉO’s other regional directors, Mr. Howald will be responsible for implementing the strategies concerning his region under the SÉO’s new strategic plan.

On behalf of SÉO’s Board of Directors and the entire SÉO team, Executive Director Luc Morin said, “We congratulate Mr. Howald on his appointment and wish him a very warm welcome.”

Mr. Howald responded, “I am very happy to join the SÉO’s professional team. Northern Ontario offers myriad opportunities for economic development, through both entrepreneurship and immigration, and I am delighted that I can make a contribution here and advance the SÉO’s objectives for this region’s economic development.”
