Clermont Lapointe has extensive experience in municipal affairs and economic development in Northern Ontario. For nearly 35 years, he has been involved at the municipal level as councillor and mayor of McGarry Township. He has extensive knowledge of municipal services, records and regulations. He has served for over fifteen years on the Board of Directors of the Associationfrançaise des municipalités de l’Ontario, advocating for the preservation and improvement ofmunicipal services in French and negotiating and implementing agreements to ensure growth and economic development. He also served on the Administrative Board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), which discusses municipal policies and regulations at the provincial level, based on the realities of Ontario’s municipalities. He also participated in theprovincial advisory committee that presented these issues to ministers. He has extensive experience in economic development in the region, having served for over twelve years on the board of the Kirkland & District Community Development Corporation, an organization that works to diversify and stabilize the local economy, to build partnerships and to support the growth and economic prosperity of communities. He was also involved in developing economic alliances between France and Ontario. Mr. Lapointe continues to be actively involved in various committees to improve services to Ontarians.
